Ideology (as for mid 1999)

1. Architecture can be amazing in itself but it is more satisfying when it fits well to the surroundings. The building which defies its context, even if sumptuous, should not be attempted. 2. The value of the context is based firstly on its consistence, secondly on its scale, thirdly on its age. New elements are welcome as long as they contribute to old or create new values which are not contradictory. 3. It is possible and strongly desirable for the old structures to accommodate modern function as modern function does not have to mean unrestraint speed and exclusive comfort. Old city structures cater for social life in proper frames. 4. Therefore relevant urban policy measures should be pursued, of which internal development and sustainable transport play major role. I am very much for public transport instead of developing motor car facilities and inner city regeneration instead of external expansion. 5. Apart from that there doesn't seem to be any more ideology in professional matters.
